Corner China Cabinet

Building A Corner China Cabinet For My Wife

Earlier this year I took on a project that my wife has been asking me to build for many years. She's always wanted a China cabinet to display some of her Grandma's things. For one reason or another it's just never been built and it was time to get it done.

We finally decided on a location for the China cabinet in the corner of our dining room which meant I needed to make it match out existing table and chairs. The frames are a dark stained maple wood and the table top and seats are made from red elm which has a beautiful and distinct grain. From a distance it resembles red oak but up close there a some crazy zig-zag patterns in the grain that make it very unique.

Unfortunately I hadn't built this table so I had to come up with some custom stains and finishes to get the match as close as possible but in the end I think I had it nailed.

There were quite a few hurdles and setbacks along the way in this build and I think it almost broke me at times but in the end we have a beautiful piece of furniture that will be with us for many years to come. And most importantly, my wife is happy to finally have her China cabinet.

You can watch the entire process from start to finish in the build video below.
